FUNimation takes on Geneon USA's titles

"The North American anime distributor FUNimation Entertainment has announced that it signed a deal with Geneon Entertainment to manufacture, sell, and distribute "select" DVD titles in North America. Those titles include Ergo Proxy, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon Second Barrage, Karin, Kyo kara Maoh! The Show itself:
I wasn't really expecting much from this show, as a matter of fact it doesn't really look much like an anime and seems more like the kind of fantasy cartoon about magic you'd expect from America or Europe. Either way it was okay to watch, not the greatest story but it gives the show something to keep it going. Though I only really care for the main characters cuz the side characters are weird.

The Cast:

Julie Maddalena as Arusu-
This is one VA who I never did ever hear too much of, I've only heard her in two roles before as Yumi in Chobits and Meilin in Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2. Arusu is a very energetic and fun character and Julie catches that really well and can really differentiate her care-free attitude when breaking the worlds rules (usually saving a fairy), and her attitude when she's being serious (talking about how locking up fairies is bad)

Mela Lee as Eva-
Mela Lee is a VA I really like after hearing her as Rin in Fate/Stay Night, Shinku in Rozen Maiden, and of course Rena in Higurashi, so it was nice hearing her in another major role as she plays the small and cute witch Eva. Of course, small and cute means she would be using her higher pitched voice (Rena) rather then her low n' fancy voice (Rin, Shinku), so I was wondering if mass squeaking would ensue when she spoke.... but it didn't.... and her voice for Eva made me go "WHY DIDN'T SHE USE THAT VOICE FOR RENA?" maybe she had just gotten better with higher pitched voices since Tweeny Witches was recorded after Higurashi, but I think it'd be awesome if Mela Lee re-recorded happy Rena's lines with that voice... kinda went off topic there with Mela Lee... but yeah, she plays Eva good ;

Cindy Robinson as Sheila-
Cindy is definently not a VA I hear too often, and if I do it's random background people (Naruto)... but anyway, she played the Bossy and strict 'leader' of the group, Sheila, really well, her annoyed tone when having to deal with Arusu is quite believeable, and early on when she was about to leave Arusu behind, you can tell she was sad when Eva went with Arusu, so that bit of emotion was well played too (Sheila dun liek being lonely xP). Anyway, when she takes on the 'mentor' role when Arusu starts taking her magic classes, she also pulls off being the strict teacher who'd be fine with letting one of her students die in a fire (literally)

- I'm not a big fan of typical fantasy stories like this, but if you are you'd probably like this more then I did

DVD REVIEW:
When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni)

Let's Start off with the
Packaging:

The Cover of the DVD, like the last one, uses the dark outline-ish cover with blood stains. However, for those who find it unattractive, it has a reversable cover with the actual colors.
One HUGE mistake is that the Episodes Descriptions on the back of the DVD's dark side, are incorrect, the titles are for Episode 6-10 however the descriptions are the exact same one from DVD1's Episodes 1-5.

DVD Menus:

This DVD features brand new menus compared to the first DVD. The Main Menu has the same areas as the first except the previews section is it's own section instead of in the Empty "Extras" section of the last DVD, also it'd be good to note that the font is different now. The rest of the menus are pretty shades of red, grey, and black going together in patterns. However, these menus still have no music. ;-;

Content:

This DVD features Episodes 6-10 which is the end of the "Cotten Drifting" Chapter and the beginning of the "Curse Killing" Chapter.

With "The Cotton Drifting" chapter, it focuses a lot on Keiichi, Mion, and Shion. Starting with Episode 7, I'd like to point out Karen Strassman's wonderful performance as Takano as she captures her creepiness and eerie interest in the Watanagashi perfectly. Speaking of Watanagashi, that was said in the dub in order to explain that Wata means both 'Cotton' and 'Intestines'. Anyway, Psycho-Laugh Fans rejoice, as Kelli Kassidi manages to pull off many wonderful laughs in this Arc, and she also does great Distinguishing between Mion and Shion's voices. Now, about Grant George, I have to say, he's greatly improved since the last DVD as Keiichi, and his emotion pulled off in this Arc was Amazing, especially his talks with Shion on the phone. One more thing I want to point out, the ladder scene, the dub actually SYNC'D with the mouth movement, unlike the Japanese version, so that's good.

Pros: Takano's Creepiness, Psycho Laughs, Keiichi and Shion on the Phone, Ladder Scene Flap matching
Cons: Rena needs to learn how to shout without her voice cracking

Now then, lets move onto the "Curse Killing" Chapter. There are a few character introductions in the first two Episodes of this Arc, Irie and Teppei. Dave Mallow pulls off a great Irie, his voice is just the kind of low and calm voice you'd expect from Irie. And Teppei's voice was wonderfully horrible, no the voice isn't bad for him, it's just that the voice is the perfect kind of horrible to fit with someone as horrible as Teppei, great job portraying that jerkish Child-abuser-pimp, Steve Kramer! :D Now then, the one person everyone wants to hear in this arc, Satoko. All I have to say about Minx Lee's Satoko is, Amazing. Yes you heard me, she does amazing as Satoko in these Episodes, especially when she pukes in the classroom in Episode 10. Oh, I bet you all are wondering the fate of 'Nii-nii" in the dub, well, it's kept just like that, the thing is the new viewers, they wouldn't get it unless they know that Nii-san is Japanese for Brother (or they could've sutitled the text on the Screen as "Nii-san, brother" or something when Rika was Explaining it). Oh, and Rika, not as cute as the Japanese version, I think the Script is even trying to enforce making her less cute, and now I quote:

Japanese: "If Satoko and I hadn't come, the fire would be going "bou bou" and the Fire trucks would be going "woo woo" by now.
English: "If Satoko and I didn't barge in, I betcha there'd be police and firemen all over the place by now."

At least they kept 'Mii~', so we should be seeing 'Ni-pah~' by Arc4. Despite not being as cute, the Voice still works for Rika, though! ^^

Pros: Pedo Doc, Mii~, Satoko's Voice
Cons: Nii-san -> Nii-nii not explained well

Oh, one more thing, the Episode Titles in the Next Ep Previews have changed to be closer to the Back of the DVD Cover and the Japanese Version.

Example:

I am angered by the creation of Josie and the Thundercats:

"WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series. The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans.

The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA)
The Thundercats are all teenagers. Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye. Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O)

When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form.
Mum-Ra now has wings."

Shino turned Emo when Yata kidnapped Ovan, And then Tri-Edge killed her for being Emo, which made Haseo Emo and he became the Terror of Death. But... Tri-Edge is even more emo... OH GODS! EMOISM IS A VIRUS! Haseo became a whore to attract the emo Tri-Edge, and rape him, and give him sexual diseases to be evil. But Tri-Edge was too powerful, Tri-Edge did a counter rape, and sent Haseo back to his former self, the virgin. Later Haseo met Silabus and Gas-Tard (AKA his gay buddies :3) BUT, they didn't believe he was the legendary whore, because they thought Aura was the legendary one. Eventually Haseo met Pi, za Admin, and Haseo was the only one not attracted to Pi because Haseo turned gay because of Shino's emoness. But when Haseo met Kuhn and his Magus hax... HASEO RAPED MAGUS! WITH UBER HAX! COUNTER RAPE HAX DAT MAGUS! And that made Endrance scared so he hid behind the White Tree. And Endrance was trying to rape his cat, so the admins were after him. After the Magus thing, Kuhn got pregnant for a while.

Eventually Haseo found out that Endrance has something similar to Magus, Haseo was then turned on. But Endrance was all "PFFT! I only go for cats!" so Haseo had to do the sex tests and raise his ranks to the top. Along the way he learned he has a Magus-like thingy too named Skeith, which he used to UBER HAX RAPE. When it came down to Skeith vs. Macha... Skeith was all OMGWTF MUST RAPE, and Endrance was all, "My old cat died from overraping. I must avenge her." Then Haseo went out of control and totally raped the legendary hax sexx0rz, Macha. Which Made Endrance faint and melt in to AIDA, Note that AIDA is a data version of a certain sexually transmitted disease we all know of. And Yata was all "OMGWTF! You gave the super snake thing I obsess over have sex diseases! I shall destroy you AIDA!" So when Haseo defeated Endrance, Yata was all proud 'n stuff. :'3

Then Atoli was like *OMGWTFEMO* and ran crying to the place she last saw Piros sleeping at for some action to take her mind off of it. But then Tri-Edge called her through a wall with HAX and Yata warned Haseo about this because he knew Haseo wanted to be the bestest uber rape whore evar. So Haseo got angry and chased Tri-Edge for teh sex.
And then when he touched the red tri-slash mark...

Then he appears in a white room with lockers, 'cause Tri-Edge is turned on by metallic lockers, Like Metal Sonic. Pi was all like "HASEO, I TEECH U R8P aBILerTIES!12 uSe DEM WEL!" while Kuhn was staring at Atoli while Atoli messed with the lockers 'cause Kuhn is a 40 year old stalker IRL and Atoli has A.D.D. So Tri-Edge was all "LOL U CANT RAPE MEH" and Haseo was like "IM TEH UBER HAXX0RZ RAPEZ." And then Haseo had hot action with Tri-Edge because Tri-Edge was much weaker in his current form because of sexual diseases from all his hax raping. And then Tri-Edge had been oversexxed and died, is face Broke too!
And then Atoli was A.D.D. enough to open the lockers and black hands of boob-touching went after her.
